I was young when my mom
used to read to me about the Arabian Knights,
a Mexican fighting the Polaris
with no end in sight.
She read about Pinatas and lutes,
Raphael, Degas and taught me
how to play the flute.
I never learned about crossing
the border-
I crossed the schoolyard
to dance and sing-
"Girls in white dresses"...
"These are a few of my favorite things."
